The first poetic element students have learned about is personification, which is giving something not human a human characteristic. Examples of this include:
Spoons dancing
Blue telling Red to stop talking
Asking the moon to tell you something
and Asking hope for a favor.
Enjoy!

Mountain, guide me to your highest peak
With snowy white edges in any season,
Sometimes,
As high as the clouds,
And sometimes,
Just small enough for a child to want to roll down on
In the breezy summer,
When the grass is still wet
From the sprinkler,
Raining
With satisfaction,
For both the grass
And itself.

Blue ocean talks as I ride on the inner tube,
hold on, hold on,
Sunny blue sky rushes overhead.

NIGHT
Night, guide me to your midnight dream.
Show me the moon and the stars around you.
Let me come and enjoy
your darkness. When you take away
all the light. I gaze at you as I fall asleep, only to
awake and
find you fading from the sky.

The tree’s dance is a secret,
So tell me more.
I want to learn the way of the trees.

Fire
Licks the earth,
Trying to devour everything in sight
With hungry scarlet tongues
It leaps and jumps for more.

Shadow,
follow my every movement.
Shadow,
copying everything.
Shadow,
thriving in the sun,
yet never touches light.
Shadow,
around every corner.
My shadow,
colorless black figure following me,
everywhere.
R.J.
Shadow was stalking me last night.
As I was getting water, I paused.
Someone, or something, was putting eyes on me.
I couldn’t see anybody… or anything.
When I was back in my room,
I turned off the light, and
He filled the room with shadow.

Sun, bring the warmth
of spring to the world.
Sun, make me glad
to live in this place.
Sun, tell the night
to take her darkness away.
Sun, guide the world
To a place worth remembering.

sun,
listen to the flowers sing.
tell me what is right in the world,
and eliminate
what is wrong.

Sky blue opens the door to his friend Fog,
they chat for a while until Wind stops by
to give them a ride through
the clouds
on to meet new friends
new places.

Lavender silk divulges my life,
spreading his silhouette
of heartbreaking chronicle around me.
Then,
afterward he reassures me that every little
thing is going to be alright.

The grass dances, sways, and shines as it tells about its dream of growing taller. Dew drops sprinkled on bright green grass.

Mountain air,
soft, cool, and sweet
flowing softly onto my face,
breezes that tousle my hair
and ask me to stay
here on this mountain.

Sun slowly goes away,
Replaced by cloud.
Cold comes along to join them,
Suddenly rain jumps out at me,
The atmosphere gets darker and darker,
And I wonder when sun will return.

Silver stars sing and
twinkle in the night sky,
connecting to each other,
dancing around
wishing they could come out more often, to see everyone.

Midnight black
found lurking near graveyards,
summons monsters,
hates heros.
Silent,
always forgetting
happiness.
She surrenders only to
the sun.

Turquoise dreams about sun
Early in the morning.
And shining off of the clear, blue ocean,
The peaceful moon’s reflection
On the water is the only thing visible.
The moon is calming as Turquoise lies
In bed and stares at the moon
Through a glimmering window.

Black runs
through the darkened sky.
He runs, runs in the shadow,
never stopping.
A raven searches the night's sky for
Black,
Halloween's shadow.

A Dark Chocolate Brown
The dark sunset
is where you find
maple trees that dance
in the spring’s smooth winds.
A brown bear’s fur,
soft like a dark
chocolate lab’s eyes
is where maple trees dance
in a dark sunset.

Dew,
calm and clean
likea new day
ahead of me dropplets
slide down the blades
of the wet rainy grass.

Silk is like night,
in the beginning, soft cool and sweet,
or, when a red stain
dark and threatening,
dark on white like the moon at night
with only two colors
there
forever.

Stars
Stars
look like bubbles in the air
popping out of the air as night fades into oblivion,
only to blow right back
as day ends.

Rain falls like petals from a flower,
Crystal like drops are free to explore,
Delicate,
Gentle pillows,
Dance from top to bottom revealing its different colors,
Hitting the ground ever so softly,
I wish I could be as free as them,
But that’s just a dream.
P.R.
Trees are like dancers,
Gliding across
A dance floor
With their branches
Acting like arms,
Moving to the music
And leaves
Swaying to the beat
Of the music.

Lavender feels like rain
Soft as fur,
Light as snow,
A magical aroma.
Like a garden,
Lavender is as
Free as a bird.

Eagles are like Seahorses,
gliding in the air
and under water
the graceful bird swoops
down to the ocean
and calls
“want to play?”
but Seahorse just races
along swift fully
and tries to get to the end of the ocean.

Sun looks like leaves
Of a quaking aspen.
Trembling,
Shifting,
Never staying still.
Sun of the skies
Leaf of the trees
Both wise,
Both caring about mother earth,
Both trembling when a storm passes through.
Sun is wise and gentle,
Leaves are gentle and wise,
Unusual, together, forever.

Dark and dangerous, green is as tough as a woodpecker’s beak,
Hard and piercing like a dagger,
Green cruelly rules the top of the trees with an iron fist.
Green’s only enemy is fall.

Strawberry cake baking in the oven waiting to be decorated by creamy, sweet, gooey, and smooth chocolate icing.
Rain falls outside
Like bullets on armor
Pounding
Driving
And thundering.
Lightning crashes,
Cowering,
Hiding
And shivering,
Good bye.
-M.D.
Stars are as swimming fish.
Each sparkle and shine in the sun
And will quickly disappear.
They shine and sparkle in the sun
If something bright passes by
Then they will shy away,
Bold only when they know they are not in danger,
They will swim until the sun goes down,
Then swim to the surface
To taunt the birds-
Then they will burrow
Under the mud
To sleep until morning.
M.D.
